Notifications
Pawtograder uses several channels to make sure you don’t miss time-sensitive activity — office hours queue updates, replies to discussion posts you’re watching, and similar events.Notification Channels
- Browser notifications: Desktop alerts when a staff member responds to your help request, assigns themselves to help you, sends a chat message, or starts a video call. Also fires for replies to posts you’re watching. Requires browser permission.
- Title bar updates: Your browser tab title shows unread counts and your office hours queue position, so you can glance at a background tab.
- Sound alerts: Optional audio cues for important updates.
- Favicon badge: A dot or count on the Pawtograder tab favicon when you have an active help request or unread messages.
Watching Discussion Posts
By default, you don’t receive notifications for new discussion posts. To follow a thread:- Watch a post to be notified of replies and updates
- Replying to a post automatically watches it
What Triggers Notifications
You’ll receive notifications for events including:- A staff member responds to your office hours request, sends a chat message, or starts a video call
- Your position in the help queue changes
- A reply is posted on a discussion thread you’re watching
- A regrade request you submitted receives a response (see Regrade Requests)
- An email when you’re invited to join a group (see Forming Groups)
Permissions and Troubleshooting
If you stop receiving browser notifications:- Confirm Pawtograder has browser notification permission (site settings)
- Check your OS-level “Do Not Disturb” / Focus settings
- Make sure sound is not muted system-wide if you rely on audio cues
- Reload the page after granting permission so Pawtograder picks up the change
